How to Take Candid Shots for Oil Paintings

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Taking a candid picture taken may not seem as tough as it is. Such photography focuses on capturing the subject in the midst of spontaneity rather than the techniques. With a good candid shot, it will be the marvelous candidate for your own custom oil paintings.

We have seen the candid photographs of our family, friends, loved ones’ and those are probably their best shots. These great snapshots of candid moments are great for oil paintings. Here are some ways which you can go about capturing candid pictures.

Bring your camera with you everywhere! You never know when that special moment will arise. You want to be ready when it does! If you don’t have your camera handy, using the camera feature on your phone is the next best thing.

It is good to have photographs with high quality and resolution. With a good quality photograph, your portrait will turn out good as well. Nevertheless, if your photos happened to be dim or blurry, our skillful artists will still be able to transform them into beautiful oil paintings.

When people are aware that they are about to be photographed, their behavior will change. This may occur as deep as the subconscious level and even occurs with animals.

What gives a candid photograph its flavor is the spontaneity of the subject taken; something which is un-posed and unintentional. So keep the subject’s mind off the lens and never intrude their personal space.

To be as unobtrusive as possible, use the zoom feature of you camera to remain at a distance. Also, it helps to turn off the flash. Even when you are outside of their personal space a blinding flash will always be distracting.

The trick is to continuingly take pictures of the subjects even if they are aware of your presence. Do so for some time and subsequently, they will shift their attention back to their previous task. So what’s next up?

Take lots of photos! Since digital cameras do not waste film, there is no need to be shy about taking multiple photographs. It is always a good idea to get multiple shots, since one may turn up blurry, the subject may suddenly blink or anything else that will take away from the quality of the image.

It will be useful should your camera have the continuous shooting mode. Do make full use of it to capture that perfect candid moment which you desire. Then, your oil painting will look great as well!

Be bold and try out different angles and perspectives! You don’t have to take a picture at eye level. One common approach is to shoot from your waist up, at an elevation. You can also crouch down, for take a downwards shot from a height. Let your creativity take control!

Photograph the subjects when are interacting with another subject or performing a task. With them interaction in place, the subjects will be less aware of you being near them.

You can capture interesting relationships and level of involvement which will add to the spontaneity of the photograph. You will then be able to tell the story behind the image taken.

Photos where people are prepared for the shot and pose for it usually do not show the subject’s facial expressions as well as candid photos.

Now you are all ready to create your own candid shots. Remember that unique moments need to be treated specially. And a portrait painting is all that you need to cherish those precious moments.

Once you have captured that special moment on film, you can then go to Paint The Moment at www.paintthemoment.com and get your beautiful portrait made. The quality of the paintings that they make are unmatched, and it is still at reasonable prices!

5 Simple And Important Precautions For Winter Play

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

One activity that many families who are getting a white Christmas this year will do is go out to play in the snow. It is a great idea to have fun but it also makes good sense that everyone takes precautions to avoid injury and accidents while they play. As a parent you want to know that when you children go out that they are safe enough that you don’t have to worry and everyone can enjoy the snow. So here are some important tips for the winter newbie so that you and your family can stay safe this holiday season when you go out.

Check for black ice and areas that can be slippery during cold weather. Even in areas that won’t get any snow this season there will be temperatures that are cold enough to form ice especially after some precipitation. Take all precautions to avoid slipping accidents including being more careful on sidewalks and other surface that can ice over. It is even more important to be careful there because kids being more comfortable at home won’t be as aware of possible danger.

The next thing to do is to make sure that everyone is properly dressed for staying outside. If you are going somewhere away from home like the park makes sure that everyone is dressed for the time you are going out. It will not only make everyone more comfortable while outside but avoid possible dangers like frostbite.

The best piece of advice is to pay attention to weather forecast. Even if it has stopped snowing you should pay attention to information such as wind chill factor. This is important information to know especially when the effects can be up to 10 degrees colder than the actual temperature. This is just asking for common cold weather dangers such as hypothermia or frostbite.

Also make sure to have something to warm everyone up. If you are away at the park sledding and doing other activities make sure you come prepared with warm drinks and make your family go the car and warm about every 15 to 30 minutes. You don’t anyone to be exposed to the weather for too long. Also if you are away try to set a limit for how long you are out. Normally 1 to 2 hours should be a reasonable time frame.

If you are skating, it always safer to go to an ice rink but if you are still determined to skate on a frozen pond or lake you should take the necessary precautions. Check with local authorities to find out if the skating location was declared safe enough to use. Try to avoid remote skating locations. You don’t want to test the unknown and be too far from help if trouble occurs. Also think of bringing some simple rescue gear like some rope and extra blankets. Being prepared for an emergency will likely save the life of your child or loved on if they fall through.

Something special you can do for the holidays is for your kids to receive a personalized Santa letter. They get a reply from Santa to their letter and get the magical experience of getting a genuine letter from the North Pole. 5 Holiday Tips For Creating Your Own Christmas Traditions

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

If you have a young family one thing that you want to do is create your own special traditions. This may not seem much but the Christmas traditions that your family keep are part of its history and identity as much as other families have Kwanza or Hanukah. The traditions that your family create is a way of making and preserving memories and strengthening the bond between each other. Here are some great suggestions that your family can take advantage of in creating your own holiday customs and traditions.

Look to your family history. If you and your husband both have families that celebrate Christmas you definitely have some holiday traditions that each family always did as the holiday season came around. Try to see how you can adapt these customs for your own family. It may be that by merging to things that both your families did you can come up with something completely unique and special. For example you can combine singing Christmas Carols with karaoke to have a family holiday Karaoke. It can be even using dishes that both of your families had as part of their holiday dinners.

Your tradition does not have to be grand and complicated. It can be as simple as singing a special Christmas song or hanging a specific type of tree ornament. The point is that the act has meaning for everyone. Sometimes a holiday traditions has a story. It can be that the family had to do without a common holiday item and the substitute that was used became the new favorite so you use it every Christmas. It can also be that something special happened when your family watched a certain holiday program. Even the simplest act can be a meaningful tradition because of the cherished memories behind it.

You can make whole new traditions based on your own experiences. For example my mother always loves the melody of the Christmas tree song but not the lyrics. So from then on we always sang it as a unique hymn with the words she wrote. She even did a version in my grandmother’s native language. Putting your own unique spin on an idea can often create surprising and pleasing results.

You can also look to friends for inspiration. You may not have done much for Christmas, but think of things that your friends did with their family that you liked. You might even have some special traditions that you did and still do as friends. No source of inspiration is too small or ordinary to help inspire you to create your own special Christmas custom.

You can make your holiday custom to be making a difference in your custom. If you want to do something meaningful for your family tradition you can do something like volunteering every Christmas at your favorite charity. It can be visiting sick kids on Christmas Day or working at the local soup kitchen for the homeless. Each of these ideas is great ways to add meaning and make great memories during the holidays

Something special you can do this holiday season as a new Christmas tradition is to have your kids receive a special letter from Santa Claus. It does not cost much and you can get the letters personalized. It is just another way to make your kids feel extra special this holiday season.

Create magic in your child’s eyes with our Santa Letters. EZSantaLetters.com offers fully personalized Santa Claus lettersand 15 pre-written ones. All letters are postmarked from the North Pole and will definitely put a smile on your child’s face.

5 Zesty And Tasty Food Ideas For Your Holiday Dinner or Meal

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

This holiday season one of the things everyone tends to look forward to the most is the food. However the traditional dinner may seem boring after doing it a couple of times. Something you can do to add some kick to your holiday meal this season is added some interesting side dishes and desserts. While the traditional staples are a must it doesn’t mean you can’t add some unique and special touches that will not only make the meal extra delicious but also make it unforgettable. Here are some suggestions that will help give you an idea of what you can do.

A new side that my family uses for our holiday meals is broccoli salad. Don’t be too concerned about the ingredients if you have some picky eaters in your family. The way it is prepared you may see your children wanting broccoli with every meal. The recipe is pretty simple. You use broccoli, sweat mayonnaise or miracle whip, crumbled bacon or bacon bits, and vinegar. You can also add some raisons for extra sweetness. It is quick and easy to make and I’m sure it will become a healthy and new holiday favorite.

In the same vein another great holiday side that will give your kids something sweet and healthy is carrot salad. We all know carrots are a great source of vitamin A and this option will definitely make your family’s taste buds sing. This recipe is very simple and similar in preparation to broccoli salad. You just grate as many carrots as you need and mix them with raisins, mayonnaise and some vinegar. If you want to add more sweetness you can add in sliced fruit such as apples or pears.

Since it is the winter you may want to add a dessert that has some kick to it. Ginger cake is the perfect option. A good ginger cake with butter icing will be just the thing to add to your holiday desserts. You can find more details on the recipe online or in cake cookbooks. To add something extra to the cake you can serve it with a popular hot beverage such as hot cocoa. It would be the perfect way to wind down the meal.

You can also look to some inspiration from Thanksgiving with some interesting pies flavors such as sweet potato, cranberry, or pumpkin pie. These are simple but delicious desserts that will never get old or outdated and will give your family the opportunity to relive the best moments of the Thanksgiving meal.

Something else you can do is to add some regional flavor to your holiday meal. This may seem obvious if you are a native born resident of the area where you live, but if you are new to the area it will be a great opportunity to add a new and interesting recipe to range of dishes for the holiday season. Not long ago my church held a spectacular Christmas dinner and one of the sides served was Maryland Crab Soup. It is kind of like Clam Chowder only in my humble opinion several times better.

Something extra special you can arrange for your kids after dinner is to have them receive a magical phone call from Santa. This is a great idea for many reasons. However the biggest is since you are right there with them when they get the call they will be convinced Santa is real. There are some great online services that do if for a reasonable price and you can have the call customized so your kids will really believe Santa keeps an eye on them during the year.

4 Gift That Were Used At A Church Secret Santa Event And The Surprising Results

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

One thing that everyone is experience in one way or another is Secret Santa. It may be for work, church, or a social or family event. However, the challenge is still the same. You have to buy a gift with no idea of who is finally going to get the gift. This is something that I and my family recent had to do for our Church Christmas dinner. We were having a white elephant gift exchange. Our pastor gave the limit at $5 to $10 dollars for the gifts. The tricky part is that you don’t know who you are buying for but you still want to get an interesting gift that can add to the fun and excitement of the game especially when the rules involve stealing the other players’ presents. How to pick the perfect gift is not an exact science and there can be some interesting surprises. Here are some of the big gifts that were popular at our gift exchange. They may give an idea of what will be a good pick for your own Secret Santa event.

The most surprising one was a pair of Grinch boxers in a special Grinch holiday tin. You can well imagine the highly volatile mix of men’s undergarments and a church function. It was hilarious and the most interesting part is that it was one of the most stolen gifts during the exchange. It didn’t end up with the person you would expect either. However the interesting nature of the underwear made them a hit.

Another greatly sought after gift was a nice metal clock. This one proved to be one of the favorites for the women. I guess every lady would like a nice clock to adorn their home. It made me realize that a useful home decoration can be a great gift at the right time and situation. It seems sometimes people are looking for that something extra to pull the look of a room in their home together. So don’t underestimate these types of gifts.

The foot massager was a really popular item and was the subject of some spectacular steals during the gift exchange. Even I was eyeing but I already knew the ensuing warfare that would result from being the first person to steal it. So I got something more practical. The best gift steal was between the pregnant wife of our worship minister and one of the ladies in our church. The massager had stayed put after the worship minister’s wife had taken it since everyone knew she was close to term and staying on her feet was likely a trial at this point. The older lady state that she had already been through 2 pregnancies so it was no big deal. This had everyone in the church gasping desperately with laughter.

The two gifts that made the funniest exchanges were a grater and a beard trimming kit. I had chosen the cheese grater and I wanted the trimmer which a previous player had chosen. What made the exchange so funny was everyone knew that the gentleman who had the trimmer preferred it to the grater. I sadly miscalculated the popularity of the trimmer and it ended up passing from my hands to several other players. Luckily I got the gift that was my second choice an automatic coin bank.

Something fun and special you can do for your kids this Christmas is have them get in the mail a special letter from Santa. The letter can be ordered online and can be customized and have a special Santa signature and North Pole Postmark.

4 Popular Toy Lines That Will Make Xmas Toy Shopping Easier

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

This holiday season, one of the biggest categories of toys that kids will want is from major media franchise. This is not just the Disney Channel or Disney movies. It also includes age old favorites such as GI Joe and Star Wars. The great thing about these gifts is that you will already gauge the reaction of your children from whether they enjoyed watching the shows or movies. This is what makes this category appealing for the parent who is looking to get the right gift. However there are some downsides. In a way you pay for the convenience of knowing that your child will be happy with your pick. The simple fact is that name brand toys will often cost more than a generic item. However there is good news this year since many retailers like Toys R’Us are aggressively cutting prices to make these toys sellable. Here are some great holiday gift options for franchise merchandise.

Star Wars is already an iconic brand with six movies and countless toys, books, and video games. It is literally becoming its own universe. One good thing about getting toys related to Star Wars is that the brand has managed to become fresh for each new generation of little boys. It also innovates and branches out. You no longer have the model ships and figurines that you probably had as a child. You can now get Lego’s kits. Video games, and other toys ties to the franchise. Star Wars has even taken advantage of cutting edge technology with its Yoda force trainer which allows kids to control the game with their mind using state of the art sensors.

Disney has several popular brands that are becoming hot toys this year. The most famous is Hannah Montana doll’s and gear as well as the Disney princess collection. Girls of any age will want to have items from this collection. Disney princesses are also getting a huge boost from the release of The Princess and the Frog this December. The movie is getting a lot of press for its good reviews and its groundbreaking princess. So if your daughter hasn’t shown interest is prepared for her pleas after she sees the movie.

Another popular brand that has come back to the forefront is GI Joe. The toy line is already iconic have a history as old as another famous toy, Barbie. However the line is getting new characters for figurines as well model vehicles and possible a couple video games titles. So look to find some interesting toys that your child is interested in especially if you took him to see the movie.

Transformers are once again likely to be high on many little boys’ wish lists. This is another popular franchise that has only gotten better with the release of Transformers two last summer. Aside from the popular transforming toys there are now other accessories such as helmets, toy weapons, and of course video games. So it would be prudent to get items from this line if your son, nephew, or grandson has shown some interest.

Something extra that you can do for you kids this Christmas is to have them receive a letter from Santa. You can order them from online vendors for a decent price and personalize them. They also come with an authentic Santa signature and North Pole postmark. This is a great way to make Christmas magical for your children.

4 Excellent Suggestions For Learning What Is On Your Children’s Wish Lists

Monday, December 21st, 2009

This holiday season many families will be looking for the perfect toy for their children. They want to find the bestselling or most interesting item on the market. Most importantly, they want to find the toy that their children actually want. So how do you know what is the item that your child really wants to get? There is no one perfect way to do it other than obviously asking them and if they are younger you don’t want them to know that you are Santa. So you will need to find indirect but reliable methods of knowing what your kids want. Here are suggestions that will help you get it right this Christmas.

The best way is by what you already know about your children. All the best experts say that you are better at giving gifts to those closest to rather than mere acquaintances and strangers. The fact that you have seen your child grow up and observed them over a long period of time should give you a general idea of what are their preferences and what they would like to receive their gifts. In essence trust your gut about your children. You will find yourself surprised about how accurate the choice will be.

Something else you can do is look at what their friends have and want. This is the next best thing to asking them directly. The thing is that young children will often as a group share similar interests especially if they are friends. You should talk with the parents of your children’s friends and ask them directly. It should help give you a clear picture of not only what children in general seem to be wanting this holiday but also what your child has just become aware as a possible gift. This principle also leads to another great suggestion.

You should look at the same toy commercials that your children are watching. Really, what forms your children’s decisions about what toys they want? The answer is what they see other kids are playing with and what they see on TV. Taking a couple of minute to watch some toy commercials can give you as much information about what your children want as the best consumer research. Especially focus on their favorite channels. Your child probably likes watching Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network. Of course some shows such as one the Disney show are so popular that your kids will likely want their merchandise.

The next thing to be aware of is that the most expensive toy is not always the one that your children may want. This has been made apparent by such toys as the hula hoop, radio flyer wagon, and other famous toys. The point is if it is something that they will enjoy playing with they will feel like that is something worthwhile. A perfect example is the Zhu Zhu pet. At first glance you wouldn’t think that it is much. It was only $10 originally and it can do less than a tickle me Elmo. However the toy met a need that the best business analysts could not predict.

Something special that you can do for your children is to have them get a letter from Santa. This is a great way to help reaffirm their belief in Santa. All you have to do is look for online vendors that can do the service for a reasonable price. Some go as far as even letting you choose different templates and customizing the letter with what your children wanted for Christmas.

Create magic in your child’s eyes with our Santa Letters. EZSantaLetters.com offers fully personalized Santa Claus lettersand 15 pre-written ones. All letters are postmarked from the North Pole and will definitely put a smile on your child’s face.

4 Fun Ways To Give Out Gifts This Christmas

Monday, December 21st, 2009

One popular idea that people do during the Christmas season is to give Secret Santa gifts. You are probably familiar with the tradition from work, church, or other social gatherings. The idea is quite simple. Everyone is assigned a person or just given the task of buying a gift. It doesn’t cost much, most of the time the requirement is that it be $10 or under. This is often a way to spice a holiday party and make sure everyone leaves with something. However the way to do it is all up to the person. Here are some suggestions you can use for your own secret Santa.

My favorite is the Dirty Secret Santa. Everyone is assigned a person to give a gift to. However when everyone goes to get their gift they have to open it and let everyone see what it is. It the next person likes the gift and wants it, they can take it from the person. The best part of this game is that no one knows what they will end up with. So the process of finding out becomes the fun part of the game.

Another great idea is Musical Presents. The rules are pretty similar to musical chairs. In this case some is chosen to start the CD player and play some Christmas music. One person is chosen to pick a gift and start passing it around as the music plays. When the music stops the person who has the gift can unwrap one layer of wrapping paper. The process continues until everyone gets a present and every gift is fully unwrapped. Once again, the fun of the game is in never knowing what you get.

Another fun is holiday poker. Anyone who knows the rules of poker can play. However, instead of using chips everyone uses gifts they randomly selected from the gift pile. To be fair, make sure everyone has the same amount of presents. Other than that you follow basic poker rules. If someone wants to keep what gifts they have they can fold. In the end the person with the most presents wins and gets to keep what they one. Of course make sure everyone gets at least one present in the end to prevent hurt feelings

Another great holiday idea is match the Gift. You have everyone by a gift that needs something else to complete it. It can be like a remote control car and the batteries or remote control. It can be a pair socks or mitten. It can be different parts of a dish set. Everyone then randomly picks a gift. Then when everyone knows who has what, and then they start to bargain for to complete their gifts. The first person to complete their gift wins and gets to choose an additional gift.

A great addition to the gifts that you give the kids is a letter from Santa. It is very affordable to do especially if your order them online. Some vendors can even customize them for you. All you have to do is make sure that you include what they wanted for Christmas and what good deeds they performed in the previous year.

4 Name Brand Toys And The Surprising Prices They Were Sold At

Monday, December 21st, 2009

One thing I realized while doing gift shopping is for the parent wanting to really save money that it would not be really hard to do so this holiday season. I was in the middle of doing shopping for something else when I saw that the store I was at, Marshall’s, had set up a toy section for Christmas. Now those of you who know about the store know that you can find name brand stuff from other retailers at very good discounts. I came face to face with a lot of name brand toys that would normally be $20 to $30 that were being sold for $5, $7, $10, and $15. These were toys that any child would be happy to have at mere pennies on the dollar. Here some of the toys that I found.

Transformers as I mentions in another article are very popular right now and many new models have been made based on characters from the recent movie that came out last summer, Transformers 2: Rise of the Fallen. These were highly articulated transforming vehicles and many were main characters. I saw an Optimus Prime, Ratchet, and Megatron all for under $10. I was amazed since most of my research has pointed to these toys being some of the bestselling items for the season. So pay attention to the prices at Wal-Mart, Toys R’ Us and other retailers

Barbie was another interesting choice. I always knew that there were two types of Barbies. There was the cheap one that any little girl could get and the more elaborate and expensive ones. These are normally the special edition ones for movies or come with a specific set and other accessories. I saw some really good ones all for under $10. I saw a Hanna Montana doll, Princess Belle Barbie, and some of the more popular Barbie brands. I then realized the phenomenal drop in toy prices was across the board. Of course you will still be paying extra for dolls with a set, but it won’t be by much. The highest I was $25. I am sure your little girl will feel more than satisfied with both a doll and accessories.

Another interesting trend was how cheap remote control cars have become. It used to be when I was a kid that the cheapest remote control care would $40 to $50; however, I seeing remote control cars of high end vehicles for only $7 and $9 dollars. I realized that the technology had become more common and the recessionary forces combined to make these really affordable. For the young car aficionado this would be a great toy pick.

The last interesting pick was the cheapest. Small toy cars and trucks are now a staple of stores. However for their size these toys are being designed to do more and more. I found a toy truck for only $4 that made different vehicle noises. It also had pull back mechanics so that you can wind up the truck and it would propel itself. This would be a great suggestion for stocking stuffers.

Something great and magical that you can do for your children this holiday season is to have your kids get special letters from Santa. You can order them online and customize them specifically for each of your children depending on if they are celebrating an important occasion or to cheer them up. It will be another way to make Christmas unforgettable.

4 Affordable Suggestions For Decorating Your Lawn This Christmas

Monday, December 21st, 2009

The holiday season is in full swing but you want to something spectacular for your holiday decorations. You may want to outdo your neighbor or enter a neighborhood competition. I think that this can be a great way to promote the Christmas spirit and you can have fun while doing it. However you may be daunted by how elaborate some peoples decorations can get. You may believe that it involves more money than you can afford. Fortunately you can do lot on a budget and still impress the neighborhood. Here are some tips for how to do just that.

Know where to shop. You can find great outdoor decorations at surprising places. For example I saw an advertisement from Walgreen’s and some other drug stores for some very beautiful lawn Christmas light decorations for only 10 or 15 dollars. This is great for the person who is worried that they will have to spend a lot. Looking for deals like this will allow you to decorate to your heart’s content without feeling like your spent all your money.

Choose a simple theme for your decorations and start finding decorations that can fit the theme. Even with a budget you can find many lawn ornaments for a Nativity Scene or winter wonderland. The more lights you add the more spectacular it will look at night when everything is turned on. But be warned, it will increase your electric bill. One good idea would be to power your display for a shorter amount of time. Rather than all night leave it on from 5to 9. That will give enough people the chance to see it. Another great idea is to also try to rent a generator. That way you can keep your electric bill lower than powering it directly from your home.

Try going Dutch with your neighbors. While you may not be able to a splendid display by yourself, your entire neighborhood can choose a free spot and donate decorations to make an amazing display that can be the talk of the town. The best part is that everyone saves money in the process and gets maximum value for their purchases. Have the neighborhood come together and decide what them and what decoration to donate from personal collections or buy.

Go green with your decoration choices. Buying lawn decorations that use Christmas lights can be a strain on your electric bill especially if you will have them on until New Year’s. A great idea is to find energy efficient decorations that can save you more money and energy. Not only will you be doing something to promote conservation, you will likely make back the extra money you spent this Christmas and many others to come.

Don’t keep decorations out to long. Why have the lights on after Christmas? Why even have them one as early as the end of November? Shorten the time and try to find a period during December where they will have the most impact or decorate for a specific reason such as a contest. This will help you save money and get the best use out of your decorations.

Something special you can do for your kids is to have them get a call from Santa. You can order the call online and have them customized for each child. It will be a memorable and magical event for the Christmas holiday.
